Dominating the weeks news has been the plight of the Titan submersible lost on descent to the wreckage of the Titanic.
I’ve heard of these expeditions over the years and looked on in envy.
It has always been a personal ambition to see that ship with my own eyes; even if through a seven inch porthole.
Now, as we learn of the almost infinite power of the ocean and the alarming lack of understanding of the technology required, we begin to scold ourselves for our naivety.
The safety net of our routine and our regularity suddenly feel more comfortable for a little while.
But humans appear to have a yearning for adventure.
Perhaps it is an instinct that ultimately sets us apart?
In the coming weeks, we are bound to read and listen to hundreds of experts with the luxury of hindsight, rightly telling the world that risks are abundant with any adventure or exploration.
Do not erase that desire for something more:
- Embrace the Unknown: Stepping out of your comfort zone is a key aspect of being adventurous. Try new activities, explore different places, and engage in experiences that are unfamiliar to you. Embrace the unknown and approach it with an open mind. Push yourself to try things you’ve never done before, whether it’s learning a new sport, traveling to a foreign country, or trying a new hobby. By embracing the unknown, you’ll open yourself up to exciting adventures.
- Take calculated risks: Adventure often involves taking risks, but it’s important to do so in a calculated manner. Assess the potential risks and rewards of an activity or decision before diving in. Consider the potential outcomes, prepare as much as possible, and make informed choices. Taking calculated risks allows you to challenge yourself and experience thrilling adventures while minimising potential negative consequences.
- Adopt a positive mindset: Being adventurous requires a positive mindset that embraces challenges and sees them as opportunities for growth. Cultivate a mindset that focuses on the positive aspects of an adventure, even when faced with obstacles or setbacks. Embrace the lessons learned from each experience and use them to fuel your future adventures. A positive mindset will help you maintain enthusiasm, resilience, and a sense of curiosity as you embark on new and exciting endeavors.
Everybody has a different definition of ‘adventure’.
One is no more valid than the other.
Find activities and experiences that resonate with you and align with your interests and values. Start small if needed and gradually build up your tolerance for adventure.
Enjoy the process and savour the thrill of exploring the world around you.
“If we were meant to stay in one place, we’d have roots instead of feet.”
