A ritual of some world Leaders, CEO’s and celebrities. According to some health experts, stepping in to a cold shower can offer both physical and mental benefits.

Cold Showers: 5 ways it’s worth your while
1.Mood Enhancement: From clinical trails, researches were able to record a direct relationship between reduced symptoms of depression and daily cold showers. This may be due to the decreasing heart rate when our bodies are exposed to a decrease in the bodies exterior temperature. It’s not a cure for depression but it can reduce some of the symptoms and give a quick reset with a rush of endorphins and adrenaline.
2.Circulate to Accumulate: The cold water pushes your body in to a form of ‘survival mode’ as it attempts to maintain its core temperature. This stimulation forces our body to be more efficient with oxygenated blood distribution. This can be particularly beneficial post-workout as increased blood flow allows our muscles to recover in less time. Over time, your body can re-wire and improved circulation can be a lasting benefit. Particularly useful for those with diabetes or high blood pressure.
3.Freeze the Fear: Regular cold showers help build resilience. We know it’s good for us but we put it off. Know that feeling? While uncomfortable at first, it’s another fear conquered when we’re up and running. Just the same as the other parts of our lives we delay, ignore and avoid.
4. Burn Calories: The body fights to stay warm, expending more energy and ultimately burning more calories. Over time, this routine may increase metabolic burn. Don’t even think of replacing your exercise or healthy eating, this is a supplement.
5.Hair and Skin Health: A cold shower closes our pores. This ensures that the body retains oils in the skin that help hydrate our skin and our hair follicles. Reducing some products and showering cold lets our natural oils do more of the work.
Like every good habit, change should happen over time to give you the best chance of success.
You could start by blasting cold at the end of your shower and extending the time each day or gradually decreasing the temperature.
For most adults, experts determine that cold showers pose no health risk and ideally, you reap some of the benefits listed above.
If you have concerns due to an ongoing medical condition, contact your GP or health professional for further guidance and advice.
