My Wife has our bookshelf ordered by colour.
It is a sin I look over again and again, a uniformed assembly of spines that map the chaos of our choices.
I’ve forgotten most, I remember some. A couple sit permanently in a compartment of my mind I have not control over.
That is the very real beauty of books.
Between blogs, Meaningfuel will deliver a review platform of books that myself and others determine important, affirming or simply good to have in the locker.
develop a reading habit
The biggest pushback to regular reading is time. To me, it’s a non-negotiable. Exactly the same as fitness. Make time. Once you find yourself in the grip of something worthy, you’ll find it much easier.
The last decade has enabled us to be more flexible with how and when we read. Applications like audible and the products such as Kindle and Pocket make reading lightweight and available anywhere.
In terms of practicality, I utilise reading as a decompression tool before I sleep. My phone is elsewhere, there is nothing else I need to be doing and I can read until I feel my eyes fighting to close.
Unlike your phone or television, falling asleep reading does not damage your sleep/waking cycle. It actually releases serotonin which helps you relax and ultimately sleep better. That’s a bonus worth winning.
If the night is not for you, begin the day with a book. Some scientists argue it that wakes up the brain and gives you more focus through the day. I’ve known people read on their lunch breaks and commutes or between studying. If it works for you, keep going with it.
This platform is early in its inception. I will be recommending both fiction and non-fiction books which I’ve either found useful or just plain enjoyable. They may be of absolutely no benefit to you. The larger expression is that the benefits of the practice outweigh any argument about the time or effort required.
I hope that some of the coming reviews can serve a purpose to you as they have to me.
Ultimately, it doesn’t matter what you read, it matters that you read.
