The First Kilometer

When I first started running, my life was a mess. My foot was barely healed from a break and my relationship had sprinted in the opposite direction.

I ran because it gave me control again. I struggled because I was inexperienced. I hurt because change can be painful and I kept going because someone somewhere told me it's what winners do.

I am hopeful now.

I am not the winner I pushed to be when I first started, that version of me doesn't exist. It is the thrill of the chase.

To be the very best version of myself.

I believe the finer margins see us thrive. It's the way we hold ourselves in victory, and pick up the pieces when we fail. The victories can be minute, our failures infinite shards.

This is not a running blog (Murakami's 'What I Talk About When I Talk About Running' is an excellent supplement). I just want to draw a line between where I was then to the road I take now.

I want to explore the margins. The things that set us apart, keep us going and help us rise.
